Vodacom Router Login

By Routers Network team Checked

192.168.1.1

Login Admin Portal

Default login: admin on most Vodacom routers, or the password on the label

App: Router Manager (Alcatel HH72v), HUAWEI AI Life, VodaPay

Works only while your phone or laptop is on this router's Wi-Fi or cable. On a phone, turn mobile data off first. If nothing opens, your router uses another address. The page that opens is your router's own; Routers Network never sees what you type there.

Key points

  • Vodacom's help names 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 for its LTE and 5G routers; Huawei units answer at 192.168.8.1.
  • The Alcatel Linkhub HH72v asks only for a password, admin. Most other models print the admin password on the label.
  • A Home Internet SIM works only in the router Vodacom supplied, at the address you registered.
  • On fibre, Vodacom asks you not to factory reset the router; restart the ONT first, then the router.
  • For faults call 082 1904, or chat to TOBi on WhatsApp at 082 009 8624.

The Vodacom router login page opens at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, the two addresses Vodacom’s own help names, while its Huawei units use 192.168.8.1. The Alcatel HH72v and ZTE MF286C take the password admin, Huawei B315, B525 and B618 units take admin twice, and newer 5G routers print their own on the label.

Which Vodacom router do you have

Turn the router over. The label underneath gives the make and model, the Wi-Fi name and key, and on most units the admin address and password. Vodacom only connects Home Internet on routers from its approved router list. It names 31 rows by make, model and TAC code, from the Alcatel HH72v to Tozed and Teltonika units.

Alcatel Linkhub HH72v

Vodacom’s setup page for this box gives http://192.168.1.1 and the password admin, and asks for no username. Vodacom says a PC joined to it is redirected to the web page. On a phone, scan the QR code on the router to get the Router Manager app, which takes the same password. The Wi-Fi name and key sit on the bottom, and a blue Wi-Fi light means Wi-Fi is on. Other routers that share this address are on the 192.168.1.1 login page.

Huawei B315, B525, B618 and 5G CPE Pro 2

Webafrica’s quick start for the B315, B525 and B618 gives admin as both username and password. Near the end of its setup steps a Modify Password page opens. If you tick “Same as Wifi password”, the admin password becomes your Wi-Fi key; leave it unticked and it stays admin. Huawei’s own help for the 5G CPE Pro 2, which Vodacom lists as the H122-373, puts the login password on the nameplate instead. Huawei’s support pages warn that carrier versions can use another address or password, so trust your label first. More models sit on the 192.168.8.1 page for Huawei 4G and 5G routers, and the AI Life app is covered with the Huawei router models. The B535-932, B612, B530-936 and H155-383 also appear on Vodacom’s list; no source gives their Vodacom login, so use the nameplate.

ZTE MC801A and MF286C routers

For the MC801A 5G router, Webafrica tells you to type the admin password from the label, which also lists both Wi-Fi bands, the IMEI and the serial number. Its network light shows red with no mobile signal, solid blue on 3G or 4G and solid white on 5G. The MF286C LTE router ships with the admin password admin, and Webafrica says to change it straight away. Its sticker underneath carries the Wi-Fi name and password, the admin address and password, the IMEI and the serial number; Webafrica suggests keeping a photo of it. The MC801A1, MC8010A, MF286C1, MF286R and MF283+ are on Vodacom’s list too, without a published login, so check the sticker. Menu names for other units are on the ZTE login page.

TP-Link says you create an admin password on first access, though some models still take admin twice; TP-Link router login steps cover the Tether app. Nokia’s FastMile 5G Gateway is set up in the Nokia WiFi app by scanning its QR code. Nokia’s help centre says to sign in to that app with the credentials on the bottom of the unit when no Nokia account was set up. The Tozed units sold as the Vodacom S90 Ultra and the Teltonika RUTX50, RUTM51 and RUTM54 have no published login, so use their labels.

Vodacom router login on a phone

Sign in from your phone

  1. Join the router’s Wi-Fi with the name and key from the label. Vodacom says a laptop on an Ethernet cable works too.
  2. Switch mobile data off, so the phone does not try the address over the mobile network.
  3. Tap the browser’s address bar and type the address for your model with http:// in front, for example http://192.168.1.1.
  4. Type the admin password from the table or the label. The Wi-Fi key only works here if you chose that on a Huawei unit.
  5. Set a new admin password if the router asks, and write it down, because only a reset clears a lost one.

If every address times out, work through fixes for a router page that will not open.

Change the Vodacom Wi-Fi name and password

Vodacom’s FAQ gives the steps: connect, open the address, sign in, go to Wi-Fi/WLAN Settings, change the SSID and password, then save. Its 5G and LTE help page explains the field names. The Wi-Fi name sits in a box called SSID or Network Name, and the key in one called Password, Key or WPA Password. Press Save or Apply, and restart the router if the new name does not appear.

RouterWhere the Wi-Fi settings are
Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 and LTE unitsWi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Basic Settings, or AI Life under Wi-Fi settings
ZTE MC801A and MF286CWiFi Settings; on the MC801A press Apply, then repeat for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks
Alcatel HH72vRouter Manager app or the web page at 192.168.1.1
TP-Link MRWeb page or the Tether app

Every phone and TV then needs the new key. The admin password is separate and does not change when the Wi-Fi key does. Device-by-device screens for other brands are in the Wi-Fi password change steps.

Vodacom fibre router and ONT

A fibre home has two boxes: the ONT, the small fibre box on the wall, and a Wi-Fi router plugged into it with a LAN cable. No Vodacom page names the fibre router model or its login, so take both from the router’s own label. Afrihost, which sells fibre on the Vodacom network, notes that Vodacom fibre lines connect with PPPoE, a username and password your provider issues, which is not the router admin password.

When fibre drops, Vodacom asks you to check the ONT’s PON light first. Green means connected, red or no PON means a possible fault, and a red Alarm light means a fibre problem. Switch both boxes off for 30 seconds, then power the ONT on first and the router second. Vodacom asks you not to unplug the fibre cable from the ONT and not to factory reset the router. Fibre faults and installs go to 082 1904.

Vodacom APN settings and support numbers

The setup and performance FAQ states that a Home Internet SIM is locked to the router it came with. The service stays at your registered address, so it cannot travel as a mobile hotspot. The SIM’s data usage SMS alerts cannot reach you either while it sits in the router. Vodacom asks for an alternate number, set at a store or through 082 135.

If the router connects but has no internet, check the APN. Vodacom’s troubleshooting page gives these values:

SettingValue
APNinternet (the setup FAQ also lists lte.vodacom.za for Home LTE)
Usernameguest
Passwordblank
AuthenticationPAP
MCC / MNC655 / 01

Save and restart the router after any change. To clear a lost admin password, Vodacom says to hold the Reset hole at the back for 10 seconds with the power on. That restores every default, including the Wi-Fi name and key, so photograph the label first and skip this step on fibre routers.

Call Vodacom on 082 135, chat on 082 622 3509, or message TOBi on WhatsApp at 082 009 8624. The VodaPay app shows outages and logs faults. Other South African networks have their own pages: the rain 5G router steps and the MTN South Africa router login, with every provider on the ISP router hub.

Vodacom router problems and fixes

Before any reset, check which password the Vodacom router login wants: the admin one or the Wi-Fi key. The default router password list compares Vodacom’s units with other makers.

"This site can't be reached" on the phone

Mobile data is still on, or the phone left the router's Wi-Fi. Turn data off, rejoin the Wi-Fi from the label and type the address with http:// in front.

"Proceed to tplinkmodem.net (unsafe)" warning

TP-Link says this is normal on its MR routers, because the page uses its own certificate. Tap the Proceed link to open the page.

admin stops working on a Huawei B315 or B618

The "Same as Wifi password" box was probably ticked at first login. Try your Wi-Fi key as the admin password.

HH72v shows Wi-Fi but no internet

The SIM PIN is still on. Type it in the web page or Router Manager app, or take the SIM out, turn off its PIN lock in a phone, and put it back.

Red network light on a ZTE MC801A

The router is on but not on the mobile network. Check the SIM is seated properly and restart. A blue light means 4G, not 5G; Webafrica suggests a spot nearer a window or higher up.

Label password rejected

Check look-alike characters such as 0 and O or 8 and B. If someone changed the password, only the 10-second reset brings the label one back.

No internet during a power cut

Vodacom notes the router goes offline unless it runs from a UPS. The Wi-Fi and login return when power does.

Fibre ONT shows a red Alarm or no PON light

That is a line fault, not a login problem. Leave the fibre cable in place and call 082 1904.

Conclusion

Start your Vodacom router login with the model on the label: 192.168.1.1 for the HH72v and TP-Link, 192.168.0.1 for ZTE and 192.168.8.1 for Huawei. Use the admin password from the table or label, then change the Wi-Fi key under the Wi-Fi or WLAN menu. For a router from another provider, the router login hub finds its address.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default password for a Vodacom router?

The Alcatel HH72v uses admin with no username, the ZTE MF286C uses admin, and the Huawei B315, B525 and B618 use admin twice in Webafrica's guide. Newer 5G units such as the ZTE MC801A and Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 print a unique password on the label.

How do I reset my Vodacom router password?

If you changed the admin password and lost it, Vodacom's FAQ says to hold the Reset hole at the back for 10 seconds while the router is on. The label password then works again, but your Wi-Fi name, key and any APN you typed are wiped.

Can I change my Vodacom Wi-Fi password without the app?

Yes. Every router on Vodacom's list has a web page. Join its Wi-Fi, open the address from the label in a browser and use the Wi-Fi or WLAN menu. The Router Manager app is only an option for the HH72v.

Can I change my Vodacom Wi-Fi password by SMS?

No Vodacom page offers an SMS route for the Wi-Fi key. The SIM sits inside the router, so Vodacom even asks for a second number to receive data usage SMS alerts.

Does this work for Vodacom Tanzania routers?

The models and numbers on this page come from Vodacom South Africa. No Vodacom Tanzania page with a router login was found, so read the label under your router or ask Vodacom Tanzania.

What IP address does a Vodacom router use?

Vodacom names 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1. In the sources above, the HH72v and TP-Link MR units use 192.168.1.1, the ZTE units 192.168.0.1 and the Huawei units 192.168.8.1.
