Telkom Router Login
192.168.8.1
Default login: admin / admin on Telkom LTE Huawei routers; ZTE units take the password admin or the one on the label
App: MyTelkom
Works only while your phone or laptop is on this router's Wi-Fi or cable. On a phone, turn mobile data off first. If nothing opens, your router uses another address. The page that opens is your router's own; Routers Network never sees what you type there.
Key points
- Telkom LTE routers from Huawei (B315, B618, B525 and the E5577 pocket router) open at 192.168.8.1 with admin and admin.
- ZTE routers on Telkom Fixed LTE open at 192.168.0.1 and ask only for a password, admin, unless the label says otherwise.
- D-Link DSL routers on a Telkom line open at 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.2, which is why 10.0.0.2 turns up in Telkom searches.
- Your Telkom internet (PPPoE) password is not the router password; an SMS to 012 321 0215 resets it.
- The MyTelkom app manages data, accounts and bills; router settings stay in the browser.
On this page
For the Telkom router login, Huawei LTE routers and the E5577 pocket router on Telkom LTE open at 192.168.8.1 with admin and admin. ZTE LTE units use 192.168.0.1 with the password admin. D-Link DSL routers on a Telkom line use 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.2. Fibre ONTs and other units carry their login on the label.
Which Telkom router do you have?
Telkom’s own website has no router login page, so the details below come from the resellers that sell Telkom service and from the device makers. Turn the router over first. The label tells you the model, and the model decides the Telkom router login you need.
| Your device | How to spot it | Address | Default login |
|---|---|---|---|
| Huawei B315, B618 or B525 | LTE home router, SIM slot under a cover marked “SIM” | 192.168.8.1 | admin / admin |
| Huawei E5577 | Battery pocket router with a small screen | 192.168.8.1 | admin / admin |
| ZTE LTE router | SIM router from Telkom Fixed LTE | 192.168.0.1 | password admin |
| ZTE K12 | LTE router with fold-up antennas and an optional battery | on the label | on the label |
| D-Link DSL router | Phone cable runs from the Telkom Line Box through a filter into it | 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.2 | admin / admin or blank |
| Telkom fibre ONT | Fibre cable in; Telkom’s Stream Connect deal calls it a Wi-Fi enabled ONT with no separate router | on the label | on the label |
Most of the documented Telkom LTE boxes are Huawei, and they all share the 192.168.8.1 page for Huawei 4G routers. The ZTE units share 192.168.0.1, the ZTE and MiFi address. For model by model detail beyond Telkom, see the Huawei router login steps and the ZTE router models and logins.
Webafrica’s Telkom LTE quick start for the B315, B618 and B525 ends the setup wizard on a Modify Password screen with a “Same as Wifi password” box. Tick it and the admin password becomes your Wi-Fi key. Leave it clear and the login stays admin and admin. If admin is refused on a router you set up yourself, try the Wi-Fi key from the label before you reach for the reset pin.
Afrihost’s Huawei 4G Router Lite is another Telkom LTE box at 192.168.8.1. Afrihost’s APN guide for it says it arrives preconfigured with the Telkom APN and Wi-Fi settings. Most owners only open its page after a reset or to change the Wi-Fi.
Telkom router login on a phone
Open the Telkom router page from a phone
- Join the router’s Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi name (the SSID) and Wi-Fi key are on the label underneath; Webafrica’s sheet says to turn the router upside down to find them.
- Turn mobile data off. Otherwise the phone may send the address over the cellular network and never reach the router.
- Open Chrome or Safari and type the address into the address bar, not the search box:
http://192.168.8.1for Huawei,http://192.168.0.1for ZTE, or the address on the label. - Enter the login from the table above. On the E5577, DSL Telecom says the page shows two boxes, username and password.
- Change the default when the router asks. DSL Telecom notes that the Huawei B315 and B525 prompt you to pick a new password at the first sign-in.
A letter l in place of the digit 1, or a dot left out, sends you to a search page. If the right address still loads nothing, check the cable and Wi-Fi with the router web page fixes. For other default logins, the default router password list covers brands Telkom does not ship.
Change the Telkom Wi-Fi password
There is no Telkom menu of its own. You change the Wi-Fi name and key in the Huawei, ZTE or D-Link firmware, and the menu names differ by maker. Every phone, laptop and TV must rejoin with the new key afterwards, so choose one you can type on a phone without mistakes.
Huawei LTE home routers
DSL Telecom, a reseller whose help desk covers Telkom LTE, gives two paths for Huawei home routers:
- B315 and B525:
Settingsat the top, expandWLANon the left, thenWLAN Basic Settings. Change the SSID (Wi-Fi name) and the WPA pre-shared key (Wi-Fi password), then clickApplyat the bottom right. - B311 and B535: the
WiFi Settingstab at the top, thenWiFi basic settingson the left, with the same two fields.
On a new B315, B618 or B525 from Webafrica, the first login opens a three-step wizard instead. Step 1 offers “auto-update in idle period 3-5 am”; Webafrica recommends ticking it so system updates use your Night Surfer data. Step 2 asks for the SSID and the WLAN key, so the Wi-Fi name and key are set before you ever reach the menus.
Huawei E5577 pocket router
Sign in at 192.168.8.1 while joined to the pocket router’s Wi-Fi. DSL Telecom’s path for the Wi-Fi key is Wi-Fi, then Wi-Fi Security Settings.
ZTE LTE routers
For the ZTE K12, Webafrica’s steps are: join the router’s Wi-Fi and open the address from the label. Sign in with the label login, change the Wi-Fi name and password, then save.
On D-Link DSL routers, the default Wi-Fi name and WPA key sit on the white sticker on the bottom or back. The D-Link router login steps show the D-Link menus. For phone-only steps and other brands, see how to change a Wi-Fi password.
Telkom internet password reset by SMS
A Telkom DSL connection signs in to Telkom with a PPPoE account: a username in the form username@telkomsa.net and a password that Telkom sends by SMS or email. That pair goes into the router’s PPPoE or Internet setup page. The router’s own admin login, admin and admin on a D-Link, is a different thing.
D-Link South Africa’s FAQ gives Telkom’s reset by SMS:
Reset the Telkom PPPoE password by SMS
- SMS the word
Passwordto 012 321 0215 from the number on your Telkom account. - Telkom replies with two options: 1 resets your email password, 2 resets your access (PPPoE) password. The reply also shows your PPPoE username if you forgot it.
- Reply
2. Telkom sends a new PPPoE password. - Open the router page (on a D-Link, 192.168.1.1 or its 10.0.0.2 twin), find the PPPoE or Internet setup step, and type the new password under the username.
No reply may mean Telkom has an old contact number on the account. D-Link’s advice is to call Telkom on 10210 and ask for a PPPoE reset or a resend of the SMS.
Telkom router settings and customer care numbers
The APN (Access Point Name) is the setting a Telkom LTE router uses to reach the internet, and the two resellers documented here use different ones. Webafrica’s Telkom LTE APN page says to change it only when told to, or when you have confirmed the router uses the wrong one.
| Reseller | APN | Username and password | Where the router keeps it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Webafrica | webafrica | leave blank | Network, Mobile Network, Dial-up, Profile Management or APN Settings |
| Afrihost (Huawei 4G Router Lite) | afrihost, profile name Afrihost LTE, IP type IPv4 | leave blank | Network Settings > Internet Connection |
Webafrica notes that a reset removes your Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password and other changes, and asks you to confirm the APN reads webafrica before testing again. Afrihost ships the Router Lite with the Telkom APN set, and Webafrica says the ZTE K12 finds its APN by itself. Telkom LTE SIMs and the PPPoE account are also Telkom’s side; the Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi key and admin password are yours.
The MyTelkom app’s Google Play listing describes managing Telkom data, accounts, bills and services, with no mention of router settings. Telkom’s customer care page lists the other channels:
| Channel | What it does | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed broadband | DSL and fibre services, PPPoE resets | 10210 |
| Mobile | Mobile services | 081180 |
| Usage, upgrades, recharges | 0811 601 700 | |
| USSD | Self-service menu | *180# |
Call 10210 when the DSL light stays off or flashing, or when the PPPoE SMS never arrives. If you only lost the admin password, you do not need Telkom: a factory reset of the router brings back the label login, then you set the Wi-Fi again.
Telkom LTE data usage alerts
Webafrica warns that its Telkom Fixed LTE usage figures can be up to 48 hours behind, so it points customers to the router itself. On a Huawei unit, sign in at 192.168.8.1, open the SMS tab, choose SMS Settings on the left, click enable and Apply. On a ZTE unit at 192.168.0.1, open SMS, select the number box, then enable and Apply. The control panel then shows an alert when your usage reaches 50, 80, 90 and 100% of your data.
Telkom router lights and error messages
Customers of other South African networks have their own pages for Vodacom routers and rain routers.
Red light on a Huawei LTE router
Webafrica's sheet reads red as not connected to the network, green as searching and blue as connected. On a brand new SIM, blue can take from a few minutes to two business days.
Internet icon stays red on a DSL router
D-Link reads this as wrong PPPoE account details. Reset the PPPoE password by SMS and type it in again.
DSL icon flashes for more than 5 minutes, or stays off
D-Link reads this as a line fault. Check the cable at the Telkom Line Box and through the filter or splitter, then report the fault on 10210.
"3G/4G connection incomplete."
DSL Telecom's D-Link G413X guide shows this after the Test button. Reinsert the SIM and restart the router. A working SIM shows "Hardware interface connected properly."
admin is refused on a Huawei B315, B618 or B525
The Same as Wifi password box was probably ticked at setup. Sign in with the Wi-Fi key from the label or the one you chose.
The page will not load right after switching on
Give the router time to find the network first. DSL Telecom says the E5577 usually takes at least a minute; Webafrica says to hold the K12 power button for about 3 seconds, then wait 1 to 2 minutes.
E5577 drops the connection when idle
DSL Telecom says the pocket router disconnects when no data moves for a while and connects again once data is sent, for example when you open a page.
No login printed for a fibre ONT or 5G router
No Telkom page gives one. Use the login printed on its label; if the label has none, ask Telkom on 10210. Do not try accounts from online login lists.
Conclusion
A Telkom router login starts with the label, which names the model, and the model decides between 192.168.8.1, 192.168.0.1 and 10.0.0.2. Keep the router password and the Telkom PPPoE password apart, because only the second one is reset by SMS. For other providers in South Africa and beyond, the ISP router logins by country list every network covered so far.

Frequently asked questions
How do I log into my Telkom WiFi router?
Join the router's Wi-Fi and switch mobile data off. Type the address for your model in the browser bar: 192.168.8.1 for Huawei LTE units, 192.168.0.1 for ZTE LTE units, or the one on the label. Then enter the admin login from the same label.
What is the default Telkom router password?
Webafrica and DSL Telecom give admin with admin for the Huawei B315, B618, B525 and E5577 on Telkom LTE, and admin alone for ZTE units at 192.168.0.1. The ZTE K12 and fibre ONTs carry theirs on the label.
I forgot my Telkom router password. What now?
Try admin first, then the Wi-Fi key if the Same as Wifi password box was ticked. If both fail, a factory reset puts the default back, but it also clears your Wi-Fi name and password, so have the label handy.
Can I change my Telkom Wi-Fi password by SMS?
No source shows an SMS that changes the Wi-Fi key. The SMS to 012 321 0215 resets the PPPoE internet or email password. The Wi-Fi key is changed on the router's own page.
Why do some Telkom routers use 10.0.0.2?
D-Link's South African FAQ gives 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.2 as its routers' default address and uses a Telkom PPPoE account as its example. Telkom LTE routers from Huawei and ZTE use 192.168.8.1 and 192.168.0.1 instead.
Does the MyTelkom app change router settings?
Its Google Play listing describes data, accounts, bills and services. It says nothing about the router's Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi key or admin password, so those stay on the router's web page.
