Airtel Router Login Kenya
192.168.8.1
Default login: None published by Airtel Kenya, so read the sticker. 192.168.8.1 applies only to Huawei-branded units, with the nameplate password
App: My Airtel, HUAWEI AI Life (Huawei-branded units only)
Works only while your phone or laptop is on this router's Wi-Fi or cable. On a phone, turn mobile data off first. If nothing opens, your router uses another address. The page that opens is your router's own; Routers Network never sees what you type there.
Key points
- Airtel Kenya's own pages give no router address, username or password, so the sticker on your box is the source to trust.
- 192.168.8.1 is Huawei's address for its CPE and Mobile WiFi units. Use it only when the box carries the Huawei logo or the sticker shows it.
- Join the router's Wi-Fi and switch mobile data off before you type the address.
- The My Airtel app and *400# handle bundles and renewals. Wi-Fi settings live on the router itself.
- Home Broadband support is 400 from an Airtel line or 0733 100 100 from any other network.
On this page
The Airtel router login Kenya customers need is printed on the sticker of their box, because Airtel Kenya publishes no router address or password. Join the router’s Wi-Fi, switch mobile data off, and type the address from the sticker into the browser. If the box carries the Huawei logo, Huawei’s help gives 192.168.8.1 and the password on the nameplate.
Which Airtel router do you have?
Airtel Kenya has sold four kinds of box. Match yours by what you can see:
| What you see | Your box | Where its login is |
|---|---|---|
| Desk unit sold as Airtel 5G | 5G Smart Connect | Sticker on the router |
| Indoor router wired by one cable to a box on the roof or wall | 5G Outdoor Unit kit | Sticker on the indoor router |
| Desk unit with LAN ports, sold as 4G | 4G Smart box | Sticker on the router |
| Pocket unit with a battery | 4G pocket Wi-Fi (MiFi) | Label on the unit |
| Huawei logo on any of these | Huawei-branded unit | 192.168.8.1 and the nameplate |
Airtel 5G Smart Connect router
This is the indoor 5G box from Airtel shops. Airtel’s 5G page calls it the Airtel 5G Smart Connect, and in the Home Broadband FAQ the same box appears as the “5G Smartbox Router”. Airtel says it works on 3G and 4G LTE as well as 5G and connects up to 32 devices. The page names no maker and gives no address or login, so the sticker on the box is your only source. If your 5G router carries the Huawei logo, our Huawei router login notes cover that family.
Airtel 5G Outdoor Unit (ODU)
Tech-ish reported in late 2025 that Airtel added a two-part kit: a weather-resistant outdoor antenna paired with an indoor router. TechTrendsKE’s report on the Outdoor Unit names the parts: a ZLT X17M modem on the roof or wall and a ZLT W304VA PRO Wi-Fi 6 router indoors. It says one PoE cable carries both data and power to the outdoor box. The Wi-Fi comes from the indoor router, so read the sticker on that unit, not on the box outside. The same report says the indoor router supports NFC pairing: an Android phone with NFC can tap it to join the Wi-Fi.
Airtel 4G Smart box router
HapaKenya’s report on the 2022 launch describes the 4G Smart box as a home router with Wi-Fi and LAN ports for up to 32 devices. If its sticker shows 192.168.1.1, the 192.168.1.1 login page covers the boxes that use that address.
Airtel MiFi login
The Airtel 4G pocket Wi-Fi in the same 2022 launch shares its SIM with up to 10 devices. Airtel’s 5G FAQ adds that “Not all Airtel Mifi and Router devices are 5G compatible”, so an older pocket unit may show 4G only. The same FAQ says there is no special 5G bundle: your existing data plan carries on. Look for the label on the back, or under the back cover if the unit has one. On a Huawei-branded MiFi, Huawei’s help says the address and password are on the nameplate, and warns they “may vary for the carrier custom versions”. Lost the label? Work the address out on your phone with the steps to find a router’s IP address.
Airtel router login Kenya steps on a phone
The same steps cover every Airtel router login Kenya homes use, from the 5G Smart Connect to the MiFi.
Open the Airtel router settings page
- Read the sticker. Note what it lists: the admin address, the admin password and the Wi-Fi key. Take a photo so you keep them.
- Connect your phone to the router’s Wi-Fi with that Wi-Fi key.
- Switch mobile data off. With data on, the phone can send the request out to the internet instead of to the router.
- Open Chrome or Safari and type
http://and the sticker address in the address bar, for examplehttp://192.168.8.1on a Huawei unit. Do not use the search box. - Enter the admin password from the sticker. A Huawei-branded unit may ask for the password alone.
If you see “This site can’t be reached”, the phone is usually off the router’s Wi-Fi or the address is wrong. On a Huawei unit, the 192.168.8.1 login page has more on that address. When the page still stays blank, follow what to do when the router page will not open.
Change the Airtel WiFi password
Change the Airtel WiFi password on the router’s own settings page, not in the My Airtel app; the menu depends on the router’s maker. Three different secrets sit around one Airtel box, and typing the wrong one makes a login fail:
| Secret | Where you find it | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Admin password | Sticker, or the one you set later | The router settings page |
| Wi-Fi key | Sticker, until you change it | Your phone’s or laptop’s Wi-Fi connection |
| My Airtel app account | Made when you register in the app | Bundles and renewals |
Huawei states it plainly for its pocket units: the management password is “not the connection password for WLAN”.
On the Airtel 5G or 4G home router
Airtel publishes no menu for its own routers, so the path depends on the maker. On a Huawei-branded box, Huawei’s CPE help gives Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Basic Settings: the current name and key show there, you type new ones and tap Save. In the HUAWEI AI Life app, the same change sits under Show more > Wi-Fi settings, as long as your phone is joined to the router’s Wi-Fi. On a ZLT or other indoor unit, look for a menu named Wi-Fi, WLAN or Wireless. Every phone and laptop drops off after the change, so reconnect each one with the new key. Menu names for other makers are in how to change a Wi-Fi password on any router.
On an Airtel MiFi
To change the admin password on a Huawei pocket unit, Huawei’s Mobile WiFi help gives Advanced > System > Modify Password. Enter the current password, then the new one twice, and save. The Wi-Fi key sits in the unit’s Wi-Fi settings. If a laptop or phone still joins the MiFi, it may show the saved key: see ways to find a saved Wi-Fi password.
Is the My Airtel app the router login?
No. The My Airtel app is your Airtel account, and Airtel says it is for buying “Airtel Mobile or MiFi/Router bundles”, sending money and paying bills. Airtel’s 5G FAQ splits the jobs like this:
| You want to | Go to |
|---|---|
| Change the Wi-Fi name, key or admin password | The sticker address, on the router’s Wi-Fi |
| Buy or renew a Home Broadband bundle | My Airtel > Smart Connect icon > Buy bundles, or *400# |
| Renew an Enterprise 5G Unlimited plan | My Airtel > Home WiFi icon > Buy Bundles, or *201# |
| Order a 5G router | *201# > Get device |
| Find an Airtel shop | *100# |
What Airtel controls and when to call
Call Airtel Home Broadband on 400 from an Airtel line or 0733 100 100 from any other network, and call before you reset an installed Outdoor Unit.
- Plans stay on the router. Airtel’s FAQ says the unlimited plans are only available on the 5G Smart Connect router, not on a phone.
- Outdoor Unit setup. Tech-ish’s report on the Outdoor Unit says you give delivery and location details on Airtel’s website and show your original ID for SIM registration at installation. TechTrendsKE adds that Airtel requires a professional installation. It also reports that the outdoor equipment remains the property of Airtel Kenya and may be recovered if the account stays inactive for three months in a row.
- Moving house. TechTrendsKE also reports you can take the Outdoor Unit with you if the new place is inside Airtel’s 5G or 4G coverage.
A factory reset puts back the factory login and clears your Wi-Fi name, key and any settings made at installation. On an installed Outdoor Unit, call first. Once support says yes, the router factory reset steps show which button to hold and what gets wiped.
Contacts from Airtel’s 5G page: for Home Broadband call 400 from an Airtel line, 0733 100 100 from another network, or email Homebroadband@ke.airtel.com. For the Enterprise 5G Unlimited plans call 200 or 0733 100 200, or email airtel5Gunlimited@ke.airtel.com. If you also have a Safaricom box at home, the Safaricom router login steps cover its own address and login.
Airtel router problems and fixes
The sticker address will not load
Make sure the phone has joined the router's Wi-Fi and that mobile data is switched off. Type the address with http:// in the address bar. On an Outdoor Unit kit, connect to the indoor router, not the outdoor box.
The sticker password is refused
Someone changed it after setup, or you typed the Wi-Fi key instead of the admin password. Try the other one from the sticker, then see how to get back a lost router password before you reset.
Full signal bars but the internet crawls
Airtel's 5G FAQ says that once the monthly fair usage limit is used up, speed drops to 2 Mbps until you renew or buy a booster plan. Check your bundle in My Airtel.
No 5G icon on the router
Airtel says the 5G Smart Connect also works in 4G areas, so it keeps running on 4G when the 5G icon is missing.
No internet after a reset
Open the router's mobile network or APN settings. The APN Airtel lists for phones is internet, named Airtel Internet. If your router shows an empty profile, ask Airtel on 400 which APN it should use.
You renewed early but nothing changed
Airtel's FAQ says you can renew, upgrade or downgrade during the validity period, but the new plan only starts when the current one expires. A booster plan, by contrast, takes priority over the main plan.
The router stopped working on a set date
The plan probably expired. Airtel sends the expiry notice to your alternative mobile number, so keep that number current. Renew through My Airtel or *400#.
Conclusion
For an Airtel router login Kenya readers can trust, start with the sticker on the box and use Huawei’s 192.168.8.1 only on Huawei-branded units. Bundles and renewals belong in My Airtel, while the Wi-Fi name and key change on the router itself. The ISP router login directory lists providers in other countries.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Airtel router default password?
Airtel Kenya does not publish one. Read the sticker on your box. Huawei, for example, prints the login password on the nameplate of its units.
What is the Airtel router IP address in Kenya?
Read it off the sticker. Airtel gives no address. If the box is Huawei-branded, Huawei's own help points to 192.168.8.1. Any other address printed on the sticker is the one to type.
How do I reset my Airtel router password?
If you changed the admin password and lost it, a factory reset puts back the factory login, but it also clears your Wi-Fi name and key. Call 400 before you reset an installed Outdoor Unit: TechTrendsKE reports that Airtel installs that kit and owns the outdoor equipment.
Can I change my Airtel WiFi password in the My Airtel app?
Airtel's app page lists buying mobile and MiFi or router bundles, money and bill services, but no Wi-Fi password feature. Change the key on the router's settings page, or in HUAWEI AI Life if the router is Huawei-branded.
Does the Airtel 5G router work without 5G?
Yes. Airtel's FAQ says the 5G Smart Connect works in both 4G and 5G covered areas, and Airtel's 5G page says it also runs on 3G and 4G LTE, so it keeps working when the 5G icon is missing.
